Working 4 days a week has been a great move for me. As a single father, weekends are dominated by my daughter (who is 11). I love spending time with her. However, having one day off a week that is entirely for me allows me to exercise and relax as I want to. I have more energy for the working week and the weekend as a result. Managing boundaries can be difficult at times. For me the key is flexibility both ways. I do occasionally work on my day off, in which case I do not feel guilty if I leave work a little early another day. The arrangement needs to work for the employee and the employer - total rigidity is not likely to work for the employer, but a one way street will not work for me.
